Ruth Gordo has hung up her stick after nine seasons and two babies.

Ruth joined the club in 2013, and was part of the team who got EG W1s promoted to the Premier League in 2015. As well as being indoor and outdoor captain, she's played in Outdoor European and Indoor European finals, scoring 11 outdoor and 26 indoor goals. She simply bleeds blue and white.  

To express our massive love for Ruth, members of the W1s have written to her to thank her for everything she has done for our team and club. Enjoy!

Small & mighty, calm & composed, never gives up, and wiser than the rest of the team put together - just some of the things that you brought to this squad! An EG ladies legend, always with a smile and welcoming beyond belief! Have loved playing with you the last few years and you will be so missed! Enjoy your weekends with your gorgeous boys and hope to see you on the side lines soon (hopefully with some homemade signs!!) Ellie ???? x

Ruth, it has been a pleasure to play alongside you for many seasons and thank you for everything you have given to the club during such a successful period for the Women's 1s. You will be missed greatly. You have made every single player who has joined the club in your time so incredibly welcome and your smile and leadership on the pitch will be missed. Composed, competitive and a complete player thank you for all the fun you brought to the pitch…it has been a ball!

Ruth is simply a person that you want at your club, she's got the warmest heart and gets on with literally everyone. Most of my best memories with Ruth culminate in Lille which was quite the experience, from eating pizzas on the curb of a car park to the whole team being deliriously piled into Chloe's room, to Ruth's infamous GIF and me completely missing the reveal of her pregnancy I have shared so many laughs with this legend and will miss having her around! One of the kindest, funniest, most relaxed yet responsible people I've ever met. Ruth really made joining & playing for EG so much fun for everyone who was lucky enough to do so! Ruth you truly are a legend! Thank you so much for being the most welcoming and kind person to me from the very beginning of my time at EG many years ago! An true EGHC legend both on and off the pitch. Ruth, you were my first captain when I joined East Grinstead at 16 years old and you taught me the importance of leading and playing with humility and empathy (and just a little bit of humour!) You really are an inspiration to me and it was an absolute pleasure to call you my teammate - see you on the sideline, Lockie x

My fellow Durham alum, it is sad to see you leave the blue and white. From day one you have welcomed me to the EG family and I want to say a huge thankful for your kindness over the years. Thank you so much for making my first season at EG so welcoming.
